Can the Insurance Company make me go to their claims center for an estimate?
No! In the State of NJ, you have the right to choose which repair facility you want to repair you vehicle.
NJ Law (11:3-10.3) states that “the insured may use any repair facility of his or her own choice” and that “the insurer must make all reasonable efforts to obtain an agreed price with the facility selected by the insured”
Some insurance companies have “drive-in” locations that they like to steer customers to in order to contain costs and expedite the claims process on their side. Although this is convenient for them, it might not be for you. All you have to do is ask the claim rep to send an adjuster to your home to write the estimate.
If the facility is conveniently located, you can always go there to get the estimate and take your vehicle to the shop of your choice to have the repairs completed.
At Collex, we work with ALL insurance companies. We are even a direct repair facility for 12 of the largest insurance companies in the state.
